1 Ulta Beauty
Richard E George founded the Ulta Beauty Company Ulta in 1989 to act as a retailer of cosmetics for other businesses. The company is famous for dealing in cosmetics, hair and skin care products, and fragrance (Forbes, 2021). Its headquarters is located in Bolingbrook, Illinois and it works in the segment such as retail stores, salon shop, and online commerce.
Due to the rapid growth and the increased profits from the U.S. market, the beauty giant announced the intent to make the company international, and the first step was to target the Canadian market (Salpini, 2019). The plan was to start small with retail shops and e-commerce in Canada and scale up rapidly as per their success in the already existing American market. Even though this plan was halted due to the unavoidable effects of the covid-19 pandemic, this was an achievable target looking at the rate that the company has grown over the last years since it began operation in 1990. In this case, Canada and other international markets may have different beliefs from American beliefs thus obstructing expansion to the countries (Cote, 2020). Another challenge is the difficulty in managing global teams; the inclusion in international human resources may create language barrier, cultural differences, and variance in level of technology, thus making production difficult (Cote, 2020). Another common challenge that Ulta might face in the attempts of globalization is foreign politics, policies, and relations; the policies, and taxation as well as politics of the target company may differ from those of the U.S. that Ulta Company issued to thus obstructing production in international markets.
In globalization, the human resource plays a key role in the company’s attempts to go international (Bianca, 2019). The Ulta company’s human resource thus in globalization has the role of setting the necessary training program on the existing taskforce on matters concerning the diversity and inclusion that will accompany the global move. Also, the task force of the target company
