While everyone has a unique course in life and finding it can take years, being healthy is relatively straightforward in theory. Human beings are fortunately all drawn from the same blueprint, and the same basic guidelines can help everyone to live a healthy life. In practice, however, it is much more challenging. Unfortunately, every decision people make, has long-term effects on their health and life. Presently, most people are forced to sacrifice their health in the face of more seemingly pressing concerns. However, studies have repeatedly supported Shaw in his belief that only a few things (if any) are more valuable in life than health.
Let us consider two very different people and compare their relative merits. Tony is a 45-year-old man who works in construction and has exercised four days a week for most of his life. On the other hand, Jane is a 35-year-old woman, working as a stock broker. She lives an extremely sedentary lifestyle and suffers from stress and insomnia. She chooses to deal with her hectic work-life by regularly drinking and consuming several cups of coffee a day, also satisfying any food-related cravings that appear immediately.
The difference in their respective leisure time exercises has a major impact on their life expectancy. Studies have shown that Tony, with a high level of physical exercise, will live 1.8-2.7 years longer that Jane. Besides, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) claims that an active, healthy lifestyle can lessen the danger of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some types of cancer. It can also help control weight and improve mood and mental health. In addition, there are the obvious effects of an unhealthy lifestyle, such as improper weight control and lack of daily energy, not to mention more dangerous lifestyle choices, such as drug abuse and smoking.
Therefore, a healthy lifestyle leads to longer life expectancy and better day-to-day physical and mental health. Taking all the consequences into consideration, it seems imperative that everyone should take steps to live healthy in order to enjoy a rich, long and energetic life.
