An Insight to the Chinese Dynasties
Between c. 2070 BC to 1912, China was under the rule of 13 different dynasties. The last dynasty to rule China was the Qing dynasty, which ruled from 1644-1912(Chao-Fong 2020). This dynasty's fall marked the Republic of China's beginning and the end of imperialist rule (Chao-Fong 2020). History.com (2018) indicates that the Qing dynasty's era was noted for its prosperity in the initial stages but a disorderly end. The Qing were from the northern Chinese region of Manchuria, and their ethnicity was Manchus (Chao-Fong 2020). In world history, the Qing dynasty was the 5th largest. With the Qing on the throne, economic prosperity was restored, and for the period between 1644-1796, there were no notable rebellious groups. However, the introduction of new world crops such as maize and fertilizers and improved irrigation techniques from the west would mark the beginning of the social uprising. The uprising was caused by the fact that the Qing had forbidden agriculture in the northern region, and the Mongol pastoralists predominantly used the land. This brought conflict because the Chinese people wanted to use the land for farming the modern crops (Szczepanski 2020a).
