The United States history had two significant themes in the period between 1946 and 1976. The themes revolved around the Cold War and Civil Rights Organizations. The emergence of each was a result of the happenings and outcomes of World War II. The occurrence of these two events played a significant role in modeling the modern American society. For a long period, the cold war and civil rights movements have been treated as separate entities with no relation. However, the view by historians over time is that there exists a gap in addressing the two events. Currently, a considerable number of historians have generated ideas that a connection might exist between the civil rights organizations and the cold war as these events share a common time frame as well as a place in history. As per the occurrences of the events, it can be argued that the cold war aided the civil rights movement in warming up and becoming greater. The United States faced intense international pressure to halt the movement as it was criticized for failing to provide equal rights regarding all its citizens. Many civil rights activists fell as victims of McCarthyism, which was widespread at the time. Concerning this, the paper discusses the cold war, civil rights movements, McCarthyism as well as the influence of cold war on civil rights policy.[. "Category: The Cold War and Civil Rights."
