Introduction
It is no doubt that the U.S. is one of the most powerful countries in the world. According to the Warfare History Network, the U.S. has a robust economy, unmatched military power, and influential allies, which is why it has managed to be a force to reckon with in nearly all global affairs. However, this was not its initial position after independence; the turn around of the U.S to become an influential force in the global affairs was majorly contributed by the events, Spanish-American War and the Second World War, which have remained a contentious subject. Although the two events happened approximately four decades apart, they have elicited a heated debate among different factions on pointing out the event that can solely be attached to the rise of the U.S to the status of a super power. The Spanish-American War was the main event that contributed to the establishment of the U.S. as a superpower country and not the Second World War.
Spanish-American War
The war between the U.S is usually downplayed because of its small magnitude. The Spanish-American War is relatively a less recognized war compared to the Second World War, which is why its impact on the establishment of the U.S. as a powerful country is usually overlooked. The National Service Park points out that the war was caused by the U.S support of the Cubans on their quest for independence from Spanish rule in 1898. The problem was further aggravated by the mysterious explosion of the US navy ship: U.S.S Maine Ship.
