Introduction
Search engine is the primary tool, which enhances retrieval of information through the growth of internet world wide. It revolutionizes how people access information. Again, it has opened up new potential areas like the digital libraries, dissemination of information and retrieval of entertainment, education, health care, commerce, and government. Search engines have been developed to provide an interface for users that enhance the location of documents, which contain information of their interest. However, the popular Web search engines like Yahoo!, AltaVista and Google are becoming easier to use, in some instances, to locate relevant information like local information is as looking for a needle in a haystack. The paper will analyze the most popular search engines.

The major web search engines are identified by the guide of the Search Engine Watch. The most popular search engines include Google, Yahoo and AltaVista. These search engines are considered popular because they are mostly used, well known, it is considered the important places to be listed since they are likely to generate so much traffic and can generate a more dependable outcome. In addition, they are easy to upgrade when necessary to match the pace with the growing web and can be we well maintained.
Google is a popular web search engine because it has a well deserved reputation as per those using the web to search. Its crawler-based service provides both its great relevancy and comprehensive coverage of the web. Again, it is significantly considered as a first stop in any pursue for whatever one is looking for. However, it provides the alternative to find more than web pages. It is easy to look for images from across the web, to locate, perform products or news information searching, discussions taking place on Usenet and newsgroups. This search engine made a huge change to crawler-based schedule for its major results in October 2002, which was from Google until February 2004. Currently, Yahoo is using its own search technology. It is popular since it is usually used by the searchers to locate images. AltaVista was the same as Google since it was open in December 1995 and thereafter changed because it gave a relevant result and had a loyal group of users who enjoyed the service. It is currently focused again on the search and the results are from the tabs above the search box and Yahoo. Other, popular search engines include Ask Jeeves, which gained fame in 1998 and in 1999 as a natural language search engine that allow search through asking questions and answers that seemed to be right to everyone. Another is AllTheWeb.com that was earlier owned by FAST, which used it as a showcase for its web search technology.
