Critical Analysis of the Most Popular Search Engines
A search engine is a software designed to help locate files stored on computers from public servers on the World Wide Web, or one's personal computer. It allows one to ask for media content satisfying a particular criteria (usually those having a specified word or phrase) and retrieving a list of files matching those criteria. A search engine frequently uses a previously made, and regularly updated index to look for files after the user has entered search criteria. Because the data collection is automated, search engines dig for data existing in newsgroups, bulky databases, or public directories like DMOZ.org.[Hock, Randolph. The Extreme searcher's guide to web search engines. 2nd ed. CyberAge Books, 2001. (DeVry University Call Number -- ZA 4226 .H63 2001)]
A July 2015 comScore Internet survey finds 17.7 billion explicit central searches done in the search engines to get information on the web. On any specific surfing day, 59% of internet users use search engines. The mass of search engines are under the management of private companies using proprietary algorithms and closed databases, the most popular presently being Google.
Google continually dominates handling more than three billion searches each day. As of February 2015 it is the most used search engine globally with 64.5% market share as stated by comScore while NetMarketShare awards it 67.49% as of August 2015. Google search consists of a series of localized and global websites. It's rise to victory was in large part due to an original algorithm called PageRank that helps order web pages that go with a given search string. Some of its features include a definition link for most searches including dictionary words, the number of outcomes you get on your search, connections to other searches. For example, for misspelled words, it gives a link to the search results using its proposed spelling), and many more. In terms of result quality response to educational queries, Google's immediate search provides more relevant results, more swiftly saving time. It's interactive web pages have text unfolding more than 15 different search options. Besides the core search-engine element of searching for text, Google Search has more than 22 "unique features". The features activated by entering any of dozens of trigger words in any field when searching not forgetting error handling.5 all theses makes it stand out among all search engines.[Lella, Adam (2015-03-17). Microsoft’s Bing is ranked second most popular search engine with 3.6 billion monthly visits as indicated by the comScore survey. This comprehensive site offers numerous services and features to its visitors in finance, weather, sports, traffic, mathematical calculations, booking and news among others. Because of its integrations with Facebook, Hotmail, apple and windows 8, it provides a wider variety of instant search results. Its keystone in success focuses on providing visitors with best possible, relevant and up to date information or news within each search. It is being built with accelerators like translators, maps and shopping allowing users to access directly selected text in web pages. Bing's search outcome pages have a particular attraction and beautiful visual interface appeal. Bing has been criticized for replication Google's results and being slower to index websites than Google. It is also being criticized for not indexing some websites at all. I think this is why it is ranked third with 10.67 market share by NetMarketShare survey as it closely ranks Yahoo second with 10.77% share.["Bing Unleashing Tiger to Speed Search Results”. Yahoo Site comes third with 2.2 billion visits a month. It has a large distinctive search engine database that includes cached copies of pages and links to a multiplicity of directories. It is a community-driven question-and-answer site or a knowledge market that allows users to both submit questions that need answers and responses users’ queries. It also supports full Boolean searching Wild Card Word in Phrase. Despite that, Yahoo lacks some advanced search features such as truncation and only indexes first 500 KB of a...
