I see America Dancing
I see America dance originates from the writings of Isadora Duncan. She depicts how dance has evolved in the American history. Dance influences everyday life activities, socially and politically. The dance has gradually evolved into the modern American dance. Some individuals have managed to gain wealth through the arts and entertainment field. Various institutions and wealthy neighborhood have emerged in Hollywood, Vaudeville and Broadway. This paper seeks to analyze various choreographers and access their roles in the evolution of American dance.
One of the American dance choreographers is Ronald K. Brown. He is an African American modern dancer who sought to broaden the human experience. He explained the human experience of the African population in the new environment in USA. His work in music sought to connect historical events and traditions in the American society.
One of his works in the dance industry is through his music to promote the African culture in the United States of Africa. His works on the African American culture interests me because it involves some old American dance by Isadora Duncan. His dance influences the Africans in the diaspora and other people living in USA. I connected with the dance, in a way, that it influenced the development of the dance and music industry throughout the world. His work does not necessarily depict that he is black, but creates a contrast between the two cultures CITATION Par08 \l 1033 (Paris). The emerging American society is influenced by Europeans and the migrant Africans. His dance involves wearing African artier and performing African dances. He appears barefoot and dances playfully so as to attract an audience. The dance is quite different from the known ballet that had flourished in the early civilization. Ballet continuously grew in America due to settlement by the Europeans from various parts of Europe.
Brown’s work is specifically about America, as he founded the dancing group known as Evidence. His work is about America as he addresses the African American situation through dances and companies such as Philadanco and Alvin Ailey American Dance theatre. His institution is based in New York where he has incorporated modern dance to cultural dances so as to come up with an interesting art work. His work is functional in the society and has shown how the dance has evolved in the American history. New and better dances have surpassed the ancient ballet dances; therefore, Brown’s work has contributed positively to the American dance industry.
Brown’s dance defines American modern dance culture. It shows how new styles and different cultural dances have merged to form a major modern dance industry. The dance illustrates how the society has changed, both socially and politically. Ancient ballet illustrated traditional dance without modern theatre enhancement as opposed to modern dances as those evolved by Brown. Brown’s dancing and choreographic works date back to the 1980s’ and 70s’, therefore, depict those day’s modernization of the society. Today’s dancing is quite different from those day’s and is diverse and do not trace its beginning to particular dances.
