Question 1:
One of the most important lessons learnt from the article is the importance of incorporating employment laws into strategic human resource management (SHRM). Employment laws are important since they protect both workers and their employers. Generally, complying with these laws is beneficial to the whole society not only at interpersonal but also financial levels. The article enlightens that incorporating employment laws into SHRM would help an organization to create firm HR systems and improve the perception of organizational justice. Therefore, the employees would be motivated to and committed in their work because of fair treatment. For instance, employment laws provide regulations on how employees should interact with each other as well as with their employers. This helps in eliminating conflicts that lead to stressful workplace for everybody involved. Integrating employment laws into SHRM is also financially beneficial to workers and corporations. If employers comply with the laws, for example, they avoid penalties brought about by non-compliance or potential legal actions against the company. Also, compliance to labor laws implies that the personnel are appropriately compensated for their effort and, in most cases, receive benefits like affordable medical expenses.
Since employment laws preserve the entitlement of employers and employees to profits and compensation respectively, they are critical to a good economic system. The article shows that incorporating the laws into SHRM will result into alignment with the corporation’s goals that would give it a competitive advantage. Economic growth within a jurisdiction indicates healthy business where the workforce earns sufficiently to act as consumers. However, changes in laws as well as industrial policies occur during periods of economic depression. Another important lesson from the article is that employment laws, just like other laws, replicate the prevailing values of the society. For instance, antidiscrimination laws are centered on the fundamental belief of human equality and fairness, whereas child protection laws reflect that idea that there conditions wherein youngsters are not required to work. Children may not have intellectual ability to understand labor agreements and responsibilities that most jobs want. Adherence to employment laws is significant since it indirectly conserves these basic concepts, thus stabilizing the general societal values. Changes in employment laws simply indicate reduced stability in social norms as well as a shift in the prevailing belief system.
