This is an independent wealth fund for the country of Qatar (Bassan & Fabio 125). It is know known as Qatar investment authority (QIA). Its establishment was in the year two thousand and five. The main objective of this authority is to diversify the government investment avenues and helps spearhead the vision twenty thirty objectives of the country (Bassan & Fabio 126). The chairperson of this fund Sheikh Abdullah as led this authority to manage the funds under its control in a professional manner, thus leading to a wide range of investments in the world. Furthermore, QIA is now multinational organization renown globally. The authority manages all the state funds and properties that the countries supreme council of investment and economic affairs.
The history of The Qatar Sovereign Wealth Fund starts back in the year two thousand. In this year, the government of Qatar began establishing the structure of this sovereign fund. The government during this time the supreme council was established to manage the country’s surplus funds (Bolton, Patrick, Frederic, & Joseph 685). Five years later, the authority was established to oversee all the projects that the supreme council of economic affairs had. However, they were to operate within the policies of the supreme council. The investments started in the year two thousand and six with an establishment of investments and risk assessing team. From then, the Qatar Sovereign Wealth Fund has led to investments ranging from products, real estate, services provision, human capital through graduate trainees, and many other viable sources (Bolton, Patrick, Frederic, & Joseph 687). Hence, QIA has led the country in enabling proper investments that spur economic growth in the country.
The investments are mostly through direct investments instead of third party involvements. Moreover, the investments are not only locally based but also overseas. For instance, QIA has opened offices in New York recently (Castelli, Massimiliano & Fabio 411). Plans to invest billions of dollars in this country are underway. Majorly, this is going to be in the real estate sector. Moreover, the investments approach of QIA is on a long-term basis (Castelli, Massimiliano & Fabio 478). Coupling this with the wealth of risk management skills that the authority possesses, and then there is huge profits realization. The government of Qatar seeks to shift its main revenue sources from liquid gas and other fuel forms to the investments that QIA establishes in the world. This is a strategic economic growth plan for the state of Qatar.
In conclusions, it is evident that the QIA is a sovereign fund operating under the plans and policies of the supreme council for economic and investment affairs of the government of Qatar. Since its inception in two thousand and five, it has registered huge profits for this country. It operations are globally known as it invests using a long-term investment approach. The QIA invests in a viable current opportunity with an aim of securing the country’s future economic stability. For instance, it has done well in enabling the human capital of the country through the graduate trainee program. Moreover, the QIA invests internationally in lucrative opportunities such as real estate. Thus, QIA is a drive to the countries economic growth by the year twenty thirty as per its main objectives and purpose of establishment.
