Personal Attributes of an Effective and Successful Senior Manager

I have learned that it is essential for companies to differentiate themselves, and having distinctive capabilities make a company more competitive. Outstanding capabilities are unique features of a company that make it more potent due to the elite talent that an organization possesses. When the organization does not work coherently, it struggles since some departments will perform better than others. The approach of departments working independently rarely leads to success, and it is worse when your competitors have their capabilities brought to scale. I have learned that building distinctive capabilities should be the top agenda for any manager.
It is challenging to transcend the functional boundaries within an organization, yet achieving that has essential rewards. I have learned that I can accomplish this by making a centralized system through which the company operates (Windsor 440). The structures of this system should evolve naturally and develop in line with an enterprise’s identity. In essence, a design should fit the purpose of a company and reinforce its distinctive capabilities.
I have also learned that strategic planning is crucial for the success of an organization. A strategy is a plan that charts the way of an organization based on the available knowledge of the internal and external business environment. A rewarding strategy involves taking risks and acting out of the comfort zone (Dabrowski 538). Besides, I have also learned that a plan is not an event but a continuous process that needs refining to match the prevailing situation.
From the simulation, I learned that there are four characteristics of strategic goals. First, they are long-term and focus on the future of an organization. The goals should focus on a forward vision and have an impact that lasts. A strategic goal should also be actionable and operate towards achieving the main goal of the organization (Dabrowski 540). Moreover, they should be purpose-driven and work to achieve the main objective of the company. Finally, they should be measurable to establish their progress and the success they achieve.
