Background and Thesis
Global warming is the irreversible changes in the patterns of the weather resulting in high global temperatures and freaking weather conditions such as drought and flooding (Venkatarmanan 226). Science and innovation columnist Venkatarmanan calls attention to the dangerous trend, "in the course of the most recent 100 years, the typical air temperature close to the world's surface has ascended by somewhat less than one degree Celsius or one point three degrees Fahrenheit" (226). Ken Caldeira, a writer for Scientific American argues that there will be more warming over land than over the seas. The Climate is getting more bizarre, with tempests powered by the extra warmth" (Caldeira 78). One of the recent evidence of global warming is the period between 2000 and 2009 where the World Meteorological Organization confirmed it was the warmest decade in the modern record in the last 150 years. Further, National Climatic Data Center and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration supported this by showing that 2009 was the warmest year based on new surface temperature figures. Regardless of the overwhelming evidence of global warming, there are still people who urge that it does not exist in the way scientists think of it by affirming that scientists have exaggerated the issue. They further argue that the problem is natural as opposed to manmade and thus the probability of it reversing itself over time. While a few people may assert obliviousness on the subject, global warming and significant information indicating yearly increments in global temperature have been communicated through the media and debated in schools and conferences worldwide. Human activities, especially deforestation and burning of fossil fuels are the greatest contributors to the increasing global temperatures and thus emphasizing o n cleaner alternative energy sources and important in retarding the increasing temperatures.
Opposition
Data on global warming is often manipulated and exaggerated with the core objective of getting the attention of the public that the problem is undergoing serious problems. According to Tatalovich, Daynes and Lowi (197), reliable temperature data sources do not reveal any sign of trends in global warming affirming that predictions of global warming are often on the basis of computer models as opposed to historical data. Reports from one of the organizations of the United Nations, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), reveals that human activities are not the causes of global warming. Wilson (24) further argues that the earth is productive and underutilized.
Refutation
Detailed research on climatic changes has showed a rise in temperatures throughout the globe (Tatalovich, Daynes and Lowi 197). Global warming has triggered rise in sea level, diminishing of snow cover and warming of oceans. Recent catastrophic events such as the prolonged droughts in Australia and Hurricane Katrina in America resulted from the increasing temperature caused by global warming. Reality lies in the statistics. In the 21st century, disasters associated with changes in climate have occurred more than five times with more than 26 climatic disasters reported between 2000 and 2004 (Ghatge and Rasal 70). If effective measures are not taken to mitigate the global warming, the vast geological changes will destruct the earth more.
Humans are held responsible for contributing the enormous amounts of greenhouse gasses to earth's air and crafting the conditions for a debilitating future. People depend intensely on industry and the use of fossil powers for energy. As indicated by Venkatarmanan, "The biggest contributing wellspring of greenhouse gas is the blazing of fossil fuels prompting to the outflow of CO2" (226). People have been smoldering extensive amounts of fossil fuels for a long time. Each time something blazes, carbon dioxide leaks into the atmosphere, and there are significant measures of carbon dioxide discharged when a fossil fuel smolders. While people might not have an entire record of the variances in the air from history, one can deduce that the consequence of delayed burning of fossil fuels has contributed incredibly to the existence of carbon dioxide in the air. Considering the mechanical upheavals over the globe and the amount of fossil fuels that people have already combusted, a huge part of the fault falls on humanity. Modern pioneers know about the risky impacts of the carbon dioxide and nursery gas emanations, yet their prompt objectives include achieving financial strength and societal joy.
People are instigating mischief only by clearing land to live and plant sustenance on, yet the actual harm originates from the business-based deforestation worldwide to construct factories or garner trees for paper. Most of the efforts aimed at curbing and controlling global warming are incapacitated by the politics surrounding the problem with those opposing the issue claiming that global warming is natural and is thus not caused by human factors. This argument fails to recognize the importance of trees in the climatic changes. Particularly, trees are capable of assimilating carbon dioxide while sprouting and trapping it for a long time with research revealing that a single tree can consume about two hundred and thirty kilograms of carbon dioxide (How Trees Can Combat Carbon Emissions 2). Not just have people made a possibly unsafe environmental condition but have also unconsciously wrecked a significant number of the best-known components for repairing the harm and continue doing so in substantial scale. If people neglect to concede with nature, their objective of developing and enhancing life will fail.
The effects connected with the inability to control an unnatural weather change are various and extreme. The danger of expanded worldwide calamities is genuine, and not as far as others think. While today we may just observe little changes in temperature, it is important to consider what will be said in a hundred years, or a thousand to come. If humankind persists in advancing unrestricted, the future may hold temperatures more than only a couple of degrees warmer than normal, and thus, exponentially bigger hurricanes. For instance, numerous species that cannot drift effort...
