Personal Statement
My name is Pak Chau and my interest in the University of Washington Bothell has been alive from the time I was in high school. Since I am an international student, studying Media Communications will give me a chance not only to become a communications Consultant, but also to view the world from different dimensions. I come from Hong Kong, a vibrant city with diversity in terms of people and culture. Being a Communications Specialist in Hong Kong is my dream, especially after graduating from UW Bothell. Owing to my experience and interest in the university, I hope to secure a chance in order to pursue my dream.
Although I am a professional diver with seven years of experience, I have chosen Media Communications at the University of Washington Bothell because it will augur well with the nature of my job and my experience. In addition, I want to explore new ideas and gain more knowledge in order to become a resourceful person in the society, especially in Hong Kong where I come from. My dream is to become a renowned Media Communications Consultant and I believe that with a degree from the University of Washington Bothell, I will be on the right path towards achieving that dream. Besides, I often interact with people from diverse backgrounds both in Hong Kong and in the United States. In this regard, a background in Communications will enhance my interpersonal and communication skills.
Concerning my experience, I have to mention that I have vast practical experience in various fields including pro diving. In essence, I have been a pro diver for seven years, much of which I practiced while in Hong Kong. I have offered my services both at internship and volunteer levels at various institutions in Hong Kong. I have to admit that while working as a pro diver, I gained useful experience and insight about people and their behavior. In essence, I realized that good communication and interpersonal skills are essential components of any occupation that involves interactions with people. Hong Kong is fundamentally a cosmopolitan city with a long history. It implies that a career in Media Communications will be lucrative and satisfying within the city.
