Racist societies develop their culture as well as jurisprudence as per interest of majority i.e. bias. The minorities are left behind and left aside in every walk of life in the raciest societies. There are many nations which religiously hold racist mind-set and they discriminate with minorities in the cultural, educational, employment, economics, environment, disability rights, age discriminatory, and immigrant rights. Holding extensive discrimination approach, these societies develop rules and cultural norms to led down minorities, discriminate with them, and even single out them completely. One of the top raciest societies on earth is United States as per Michelle Alexandera the writer.
This treatise is a reading response to the book “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness” written by Michelle Alexander a well known civil rights litigator and legal scholar.
The book is written about racial discrimination in highly racist society of United States with African-Americans. The book also highlights issue of their huge incarceration in the name of War on Drugs. Alexandera has strongly explicit the narrative of African-Americans and fought on the front foot by exposing the racial discrimination by the biggest multicultural and democratic nation in the world – United States of America. She argues that the system of Jim Crow will never die. She claims that in the current liberal world the American-African are facing same discrimination as it was in the era of Jim Crow, they are labeled as criminals, their freedom has been stripped of, and they are not entitled for voting rights and government programs as whites. The writer Michelle Alexander also highlighted the issue that other minorities and socio-economically disadvantaged populations are also victims of racial discrimination in United States.
She critically examined the judicial as well as social culture of United States and articulates her experiences in the domains she served. She addresses in her book, personal and ancestors experiences about racial treatment of white majority in the United States. She articulates that she cannot vote like her father, grandfather, great father, great-great father because she is born in a raciest society of United States which denies the most basic freedom that democracy promises.
She recalls and blames the Jim Crow Laws for the current highly racist social environment in the United States.
