Argumentative Essay: Free Education
There is no free education in the US for students attending school at the institutions of higher learning. A lot has been said about introducing free education at all educational levels, but most critics worry about the increasing debt burden. I believe the introduction of free education would be disastrous despite the American audience whishing and praying for such a move. The primary reasons as to why I do not agree with proponents of free education and, to some extent agree with the critics is because such a move would infringe on personal freedoms, reducing the quality of education at tertiary level, and worse enough signal the wrong message especially to most students. Here are my reasons.
Firstly, education has to be paid by someone regardless of whether the larger audience believes it is absolutely free or not. Of course, no one can entirely believe that it is possible to have high-quality education without entirely charging anything. Such thinking is delusional. The bottom line is that someone has to pay the supposedly free education. It is either the US government takes charge to offer free education by subsequently raising taxes to cater for free education or the students take the responsibility of paying for it (Altbach et al. 33).
