Hume is Argument from Design
In the consideration of Hume’s criticisms of the argumetn on the roy of design, he makes a case to try and ground religion by framing his argument in the form of dialogue. In this dialogues, Cleanthes put a defense on the establishment of principles of religion the observable fact concerning the natural world. On the other hand, Demea defends the religious beliefs without placing any evidence from the nature of the world. Philo’s argument is considered to correspond closely with Hume’s perspective on the existence of God but however his is skeptical concerning the attempt to base religion on observable phenomenon’s to prove that there is an intelligent designer of the world.
One of Hume’s argument from design is that n an evaluation of that the powers and the qualities of that particular designer one should be limited to assessment of any evidence and its quality to provide support for one's inferences(Soccio 45). Therefore is there is an observable imperfection found within the world as well as moral indifference, and then one can reference such to a faulty and indifferent God.
However, there is a possibility to interrelate the existence of imperfection with repectto morality being attributed to a perfect creator. We respect to such reconciliation, Hume’s argument is that for one reconcile the idea, one has to be aligned to the idea that God exists in the first place and from there make an argument that he is perfect but created imperfection. Heads that the argument around such an idea cannot be used to explains god’s existence through observable evidence.
Secondly Humes argues the aspect of multiple hypotheses which looks at human design to explain the existence of an intellectual designer(Soccio 56). In this, we find that he evaluates that this may not provide good premise to support the existence of a monotheistic God rather it points towards the existence of many gods or one God that does not place particular interest on his creation and incompetent through his creation of an imperfect universe.
Humes also challenges the traditional aspect of what causes led to the creation. He supposes that for one to be able to infer a cause, one has to have known the prior factors that would have led to the events that transpired. This means that there should be a particular status quo in the first place that led to creation. Following this analysis, it is impossible to explain the how the universe came to be while the preceding elements of what was there before is unknown.
Hume also views design argument as weak in it analogy in which it is supported by the similarities found between the natural object such as the creatures and physical laws and the building of that human artifacts. According to Hume, this basis is weak in explaining the case of origin. Additionally that Humes also takes on argument on the theory of design by evaluating the fact that order of things requires to be exp...
