Argumentative Essay: Influencing Learner's Writing Through Grading
Based on the research on connections between identities, ideologies, and writing, it has been possible to redefine the essence of writing and how it shapes knowledge and personalities. Although one would be wrong to separate writing from primary elements of learning, intellectualism, and attitude to knowledge, a review of different scholarly standpoints provides a different perspective on multiple fundamental levels. One of the key accounts is based on the central role and essence of the teachers in influencing learners' writing. The perspective implies that teachers should perceive writing as a different and demanding skill to be inculcated in the students (Rhetoric & Composition). A special focus has been placed on students with specific challenges with writing and language. Such students can often underestimate the need for effective writing skills or trade the priority to write effectively for other learning needs. The second focus has been the place of writing and language in shaping individual attitudes. It would be essential to teach writing and assess the development of the students to ensure effective expression. Writing effectively translates to greater confidence and seamless personal and interpersonal expression. Writing, as a tool for constructing the self, helps display learners' identities and attitudes, thereby warranting the teachers' intervention in inculcating and assessing the individual competencies of learners.
It is noteworthy that learners relate to diverse languages based on their backgrounds. This is not the case for writing as, being a universal aspect, it would be difficult or impossible to have special ways of writing. Ultimately, it is easy to define how the teacher shapes writing skills and assesses specific standards. Such a perspective, which would imply shifting to standardized testing, facilitates specific benefits and is informed by a vital rationale. The primary benefit is in promoting the learners' cognizance of the critical need for mastering writing skills for personal and collective use (Friend 275). The individual perspective is based on relevant skills, including self-expression, a positive attitude while processing viewpoints and literature, and striving for insightfulness when processing ideas and information. Lacking the necessary and standard writing skills would prove to be a barrier in different ways. The student is bound to overlook certain technicalities and complexities, especially multiculturalism and language. It is often rare for a typical person to profess mastery of a language. The ability to express oneself properly does not rule out essential struggles, including writing and reading complex terms, delving into the history of a language and its cultural contexts, and improving interpersonal communication. Therefore, teaching and assessing writing skills is essential to all cultural and educational
