This activity requires that you sit in a public place, such as a school, restaurant, football stadium, or similar locale for a period of at least two (2) hours and observe the interactions which go on during this period. Some of the issues you will need to address include:
how people interact, both individually and in groups
race/ethnic, age, gender interactions
how are people dressed? How does this affect interactions?
does time of day influence interactions?
how does your locale influence interactions?
You will need to take copious notes while in the field observing the interactions. The paper that you hand in will be a reflection on your observations. Apply sociological concepts that we have discussed in class to your observations to help explain what you observed. Note where you conducted the observation, what day and what time.

During a football match at the school’s pavilion grounds, which was held on the Saturday of 12th September in the afternoon, I took time out to watch the friendly match as I made observations of people’s social interactions. The match was between our school football team and that of a neighboring school. The pavilion was filled to capacity since people came in large to support their teams. This was an appropriate time because majority of the people are usually free on Saturday afternoons as those with morning classes have long finished attending to them. It is a tradition in our school that Saturday is a laundry day for many people. The time of the match allowed people to finish up ...
