Dostoevsky, Fyodor. Notes from the Underground. Planet PDF Strelbytskyy Multimedia Publishing, 2017.
It is unfeasible to avoid using the main source in the topic since the author expresses himself as the anti-hero. One of the traits that the author's anti-hero protagonist displays throughout the novel is his desire to be spiteful. The narrator describes how he intentionally treated people inhumanly, especially by being mean and nasty to them, and how he justified it by claiming he had never taken any bribe money. The display of questionable behaviors by the main character portrays him an ant-hero. The writer's main point is that the plot is not distinctive, and that many members of society may share the same experience as the main character. It gives him room to emphasize how the anti-hero protagonist can be an ordinary person whom we can relate to.
Percec, Dana. "Subject or Object? The Anti-Hero of the Allegory and the Hero of the Anti-Allegory." Metacritic Journal for Comparative Studies and Theory 7.1 (2021): 177-189.
The narrator’s decision to live underground makes him an anti-hero. He is not bothered with the in humane environment he stays on because he is passive and despondent. The narrator does not regret the decision to live underground because he believes it is the best place. He wants to demonstrate his independence and right to live where he wants. His perception of good things are bad things in reality which make him a villain. The nature of character the narrator displays like engaging in defying moral standard, his beliefs, and lack of moral code shows he is an anti-hero.
Stewart, Jon. Dostoevsky and the Novel as Philosophy. Vol. 4. Working Papers in Philosophy: Registers of Philosophy, 2016.
Stewart explains how the anti-hero is the protagonist of the book and how he fails to impress readers. The narrator is an anti-hero the book because he portrays himself as lonely, secluded person who is bothered by his own self-awareness. He does not belief his own thoughts as he keeps recanting them. The discrepancies of the narrator clearly portray him as the anti-hero who is highly troubled and has low self-confidence. Stewart insists that the author choose to be the anti-hero to make the reader have the perception that the novel was a true story, with only the book's content to reveal otherwise. Besides that, this method makes the readers believe each word spoken by the main character and vividly envision each scene, allowing them to better comprehend the entire story.
Mehl, Scott. "Styles of Reasoning in Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground and Sōseki's Kokoro." comparative literature studies 54.3 (2017): 489-517.
Melh supports the idea that the narrator is an anti-hero by describing the underground man’s desperation state.
