Notably, Reale in his Article “Metaphysics” provide an overview based on the literature that depicts the separation of the rational world in terms of the appearances as well as the lucid world of knowledge and ideas. According to Real (2), the lucid world is the only reality that provides the foundation of the facts and truth. Sophocles (2), in his work, starts by showing the miserable lifestyles of the people during the reign of Oedipus, who is considered to be a great and knowledgeable king of that moment. Based on an introductory section of “Confessions” by Augustine, the book starts with a prayer of praising God. The book captures many instances that talk about knowing God. This paper aims at providing a review of the literature and understanding of the concepts as captured from the provided materials.
In assessing the work of Reale, the critical focus of his work is about knowledge and intelligence. According to him, intelligence and knowledge are presents in everything as well as every being. The world is made up of various substances which could be composed of the form or matter or composition of both. The argument is based on the intelligence of the human being. All people desire to be knowledgeable; this is because every being wants to get satisfaction out of the knowledge (Reale 1). The whole idea is extended to animals whereby animals have sensations from which memory is generated in some of them. The animals that cannot hear sounds are intelligent in other means since memory has a sense of hearing. Based on a comparative analysis by Reale, action experience is not inferior, and men with such kind of respect can succeed better, the reason is that the experience is considered to be the knowledge of individuals (2). Additionally, experience, as well as action productions, is connected with the individuals.
Undeniably, Kanzer, in his story depicts many parts of the myths on the initial sections of his scene. The hardships in the house of Oedipus are a result of the curse laid upon by his father (Kanzer 13). During the birth of his son, the king consults an oracle to act as his fortune. The sad news provided by an oracle is that his son is doomed to undergo hardships as well as cherish through the hands of his son. The Oedipus Trilogy is full of imagery, which is based on the light and darkness. While probing people from his country, he comes to the prophet who epitomizes light in the play and goes to an extra mile of telling Oedipus that he is the one who killed his father, Laius. The choices made by Oedipus to kill Laius are believed to be considered the darkness because of the wrongdoings during his lifetime (Kanzer 28). Such wrong things include sleeping with his mother as well as having children with her. From the society perspective, the choices made are termed as evil or “dark” as represented by the imagery in the play. Such actions led to the downfall of Oedipus as per the end of the scene which later led to his exile
Chaucer and Boccaccio make use of satire in their illustrations of pilgrims related to the Catholic Church. According to them, the priests use their positions for their gains; the descriptions, in this case, are based on associating the pilgrims with the monk. It appears satirical when a member of the church Chaucer; in this case, Chaucer claims Friar was one of the gauziest beggars in the church (Chancer 42). The above statement seems to have a double meaning in its application in the story. The Friar is the finest beggar since he lives well and makes a lot of money through begging from the people in his area, the income he obtains he make use of it himself instead of helping the people in the region. The above scenario appears satirical in the sense that someone is a beggar and live a prosperous life through begging but cannot share with poor people in society. Both Chaucer and Boccaccio incorporate norms and peculiarities that are inherent in their society. Such incorporations of standards are based on the setting and subject of the writing. The two are exceptional writers of the Medieval era in history. The writings of both writers are based on the social context since they incorporate the norms, standards, and characterization of the beliefs of the system.
Based on the cultural perspective, various artworks represent the ideas on the epistemology as well as the aesthetics of the art.
