Introduction to Adversity
Adversity can be defined as an instance or a misfortune that a person may undergo. Ideally, adversity can be; fate or incident or unfavorable fortune marked by calamity, misfortune, or distress (Krupnik, 256). Life always has ups and downs. People inevitably go through adverse conditions in their day-to-day activities. Specific circumstances in life tend to be negative, thus becoming unfavorable to people. However, learning how to embrace situations with dignity and grace can benefit a person's life journey—in comparison, learning how to embrace adverse life situations, the critical roots of character development. Therefore, when a person can learn any lesson from their misfortunes or embrace adversity, individuals can learn different lessons. Realizing an adverse situation by an individual requires deep familiarisation with oneself while still learning to embrace the case. Understanding the benefits of facing adversity and steps that a person can take to overcome trauma caused by adversity builds a background for this essay.
Generally, people go through hardships and life difficulties that are inevitable in life. Facing adversities in life can be very challenging, causing too much pain to break a person or even make a person. Life adversities also result in personal improvement by figuring better ways around challenges. Furthermore, others may end up engaging in drugs when such adversities become severe in their lives to reduce the psychological tortures caused by hardship.
There are categories of adversity that a person undergoes in their lifetime. They include; mental, physical, emotional, financial, spiritual, and social adversity(Ajnakina, 202). Mental adversity is associated with mental illness or any mental problem. Thus, in case of any mental trouble, a person should seek help from a psychiatrist or psychologist. Physical hardship can be due to the physical complexities of oneself.
An example is a physical disability. A person with a physical disability may experience unfavorable life moments that may even cause trauma.
