Beowulf Retold
The narrative of Beowulf is a very informative and interesting story with much to learn. The section about the coming of Beowulf is particularly extremely fascinating. Beowulf portrays various positive traits in the scene such as strength and courage. This essay aims at retelling the coming of Beowulf scene from the perspective of Beowulf.
After hearing how Grendel had terrorized Heorot, I gave it much thought and decided to assist Hrothgar. At first, I was sceptical about it but then I reflected on all the monsters I had conquered and how good it felt to do it, so this would be no different from the past experiences. But this ‘shepherd of evil’ was unlike, so I needed assistance for this mission. After all the damages that the monster had caused, I was certain that the "sleep of the sword" would be visiting it soon enough.
Together with other fourteen Geats, I set sail to the Scylding whale-road. After arrival, I was informed that we could not land without consent. The only way out here was announcing who I was and what I exactly need. ‘I am the son of Ecgtheow, a family member of Hrothgar and my mission here is to slay Grendel. On saying that I was the son of Ecgtheow with the task of killing Grendel, the guard decided to watch our ship till we come from the combat. The reaction of the guard showed how tired he was of the “raven harvest” that Grendel caused
