Breathless – Jean-Luc Godard, 1959
Jean-Luc Godard ushered in a new era in the movie industry. Through his cinema, “Breathless” in 1960, Godard became one of the pioneers of the French New Wave movies. There are various scenes in the Breathless that best exemplify the visual and sound style of the French New Wave cinema. For instance, the artistic movements, way of acting and filming and the shooting place in Godard's cinema was different from the classic French movies. In the scene that Jean sat on the street waiting for Michael, the director represented mise-en-scene, natural lighting, and real life. Godard also uses direct sound in the same scene. Audiences can hear children and cars in this scene.
