The play “The Brute” of 1888 featured a rich, beautiful window (Mrs. Popov), a middle-aged farmer (Mr. Smirnov), and an old footman (Luka) (Kirszner and Mandell 817). Mrs. Popov is a grieving widow who is finding it hard to move on with her life. She is sad, and she is neither interested in interacting with her neighbors, nor getting out of her house despite the fact that her footman Luka tries his best to encourage and comfort her. The play is full of twist of love and drama; this is vivid when Mrs. Popov reveals that she will love always love her husband even to death even though her husband was cruel and unfaithful to her while he was alive. More drama is depicted when Mr. Smirnov follows on his debt and dives into an argument with Mrs. Popov. After an intense argument and a gunfight dare, Mr. Smirnov falls in love with Mrs. Popov unique personality. The play ends after Mr. Smirnov had confessed his love and Mrs. Popov is left in a dilemma of whether to remain faithful to her dead husband or accept Mr. Smirnov proposal.
The second play “Post-its” of 1998 about notes on a marriage featured a couple who were in love and begun living together (Kirszner and Mandell 955).
