Connection Between the Three Narrators in Frankenstein
Mary Shelly's story is presented in three plots that help us see three different characters; Walton, Frankenstein, and the creature. The story is narrated by Walton, who strives to narrate the story with much accuracy as he receives it from Frankenstein n (Shelley,37). The story's shift between the three characters; Frankenstein, Walton and the creature, helps to compare and contrast the three characters as they are narrated in the first person. In this assignment, we will compare the three characters as shown by Mary and the significance of their relationship. We will also answer why Mary shows the characters the way she does and the impact on the reader.
One similarity between Victor Frankenstein and Walton is that they made the decision that leads to their predicament. Frankenstein made a creature who later comes to destroy him. While creating, he does not make any consideration of the impact of creating life. Although he made the first mistake of creating the creature, Victor makes other decisions that the situation worse, such as not educating the creature and not keeping the promise he had made to the creature of making him a female counterpart. Walton, on the other hand, decided to go to take a voyage to the north. In his journey, he faces extreme cold, hunger, fatigue, which he deems are worth. While the creature's decision to kill Victor leads to many regrets on his part in the end.
