The best display of creativity by Major Joppolo thus far as a leader was how he solved the issue of hunger and poverty in Adano (Hersey). Instead of going out of his way to seek food aid for the people of Adano, he used the existing resources to deal with hunger as well as enable the people to start sustaining themselves without any need for help. He did this by humbly convincing the fishermen to start fishing and the bakers to start making bread for the people. It proved to one of the most important things that contributed immensely to bring the town of Adono back to life.
Despite the Joppolo being a good man who was loved by the people of Adano, Hersey had to show his weakness in some way to make him more human. The introduction of the Tomasino’s daughter Tina, a girl that interested Major Joppolo (Hersey). The romantic affair with Tina was necessary although it brought out a flaw in Major Joppolo. It was to show the people of Adano that their beloved Joppolo was still a human being who was prone to make mistakes and hence the main reason I was not surprised with his behavior with Tina.
