Use of credit cards has left most people living in a game-like lifestyle. A game where people make money, save it, spend, and equally donate some without physically having it (Manning 13). Most of the users of this plastic money do not realize that they are actually getting addicted.
The plastic money is considerably less bulky as compared to cash. It hurts less to cater for any expenses using credit cards as compared to use of cash. As a result more people are subscribing to the game.
A decade ago credit cards were actually used by the noble who would afford the high interest rates and annual fees that came along with the luxury of using them. Currently, credit cards are common. Lucrative offers have also emerged such as low interest rates and zero annual fees being charged to their accounts. This has continually motivated people to join the addictive lifestyle.
Increased acceptance of these cards has equally boosted the addiction of using them. Previously, credit cards were only accepted while purchasing bulky goods. However, they are now acceptable in all trade platforms. Some could actually buy a donught and gambling using credit cards.
Addicted individuals have particular characteristics like hiding of receipts from family and partners. It all begins with denial whereby the individual does not want to accept that they could actually be addicted to the use of plastic money. More so, these people tend to be ‘good deal shoppers’ and end up purchasing unnecessary materials. They also get panicky when they can’t use credit cards. Victims also have few or no cash reserves. Gradually their cards get maxed out too
