Critical Evaluation of Iliad, Homer
Homer is considered is a historical poem. Iliad occurs in three days after the Trojan War. The epic chronicles battle episodes that showcase the character of worriers, their strength, and downfalls. Iliad does not only capture the events in Trojan War, it entails very specific and essential sequences of war; the fight between Achilles and his commander known as Agamemnon (Fludernik, & Suzanne 453). Achilles withdraws and reinters the war to avenge the murder of his friend.
In Iliad, the Homers heroes show several features of heroism. The heroic element is determined when one is quick in battle and usually exhibit courage and brevity. Troy shoes how vengeful he is against his enemies especially those that have opposed his family. These heroes have shown malice, especially in battlefields. Indeed, these heroes do not show mercy or even pity. However, the heroes were expected to totally remain Submissive to the gods and live according to their demands. In the view of Fludernik and Suzanne, a hero in the Greek society exhibits full strength and courage and they are celebrated for their brave actions.
