The economist article, “Immigration and the public finances: Boon or Burden?” analyzes the impact of immigration on countries. The article gives information about 27 different countries for the impact of immigrants in their economic setup. According to the economist, immigrants have both encouraging and negative effects on the economy of the settling country. An analysis on the study indicates the worry of the immigrants being welfare junkies. The contribution they make to the public is positive for most countries except Germany. The contributions the immigrants make in tax tends to be smaller than that of the native- born individuals. Immigrants make the big difference in the economy by paying less tax and getting more benefits due to their low chances of getting employment. Immigrants become beneficial to the host countries if they provide immigrants with working opportunities. If host countries feel the immigrants are not giving as much as they should, they should give them job opportunities. The economic impact of immigrants goes beyond the contributions they make to the public. In revenue collection, the amount of VAT towards immigrants is inclusive, even though at a lower rate. The negative approach to the financial balancing is that the immigrants use public amenities such as education and healthcare services. The younger population of immigrants is likely to incur increased costs since they grow up as natives in the country. With all these factors in place, the report analyses that immigrants have a favorable effect on the budgeting of countries.
