History and Future of Apple iOS and macOS devices
Introduction
Steve Jobs – the name on the lips of many people today when Apple, iPhone or Mac is mentioned. Contrary to popular belief, he was not the brain behind the Macintosh, or Mac as it is commonly referred to today. The mind behind Macintosh was Jef Raskin, a professor at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and a human-computer interaction researcher at Xerox PARC. During his time as the manager of publications at Apple between 1978 and 1982, Raskin conceived the idea of Macintosh. With his experience as a technical writer and computer designer, he began working on Apple's next personal computer, the Macintosh (Raskin, Jef). Although Raskin did not stay long enough at Apple to witness the release of Mac in 1984, his vision of a low cost and user-friendly personal computer provided a springboard that catapulted Macintosh to its present success. Over the years that followed 1984, Apple diversified its products by introducing other devices such as iPhone and iPad, both of which run the mobile operating system iOS (Nonaka, Ikujiro, and Martin Kenney). These terms have become ubiquitous today.
