“Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov
The novel “Lolita” explores a cruel nature of sexual oppression and violation of the right to freedom executed towards women in some social setups. The novel surrounds the life of Dolores, who is also called Lolita – a 12-years old girl living with her widowed mother. Humbert, who is the narrator of the story, poses as the narrative’s main protagonist. However, his condition or situation, from a psychiatrist point of view, might have originated from his childhood experiences. The novel is a manuscript of the man—Humbert—who at the time, was awaiting trial for murder. He later died of coronary thrombosis in the Jail. In the forward, the manuscript reaches a fictional John Ray, who comments that even though the narrator (Humbert Humbert) displayed some despicable actions, he wrote a beautiful and persuasive manuscript that reflects what happens in the real world. Some pedophiles can go extra lengths to ensure their needs are accomplished. However, the behavior may be a result of traumatizing effects of experiences people face in life and John Ray comment that it would be essential in psychiatric circles; it would provide proper encouragement for parents to raise children, especially teenagers, in a better world.
