Marla in Larry David book the contest sees sex as a sign of love and friendship which she shares with Jerry. She believes her being a virgin is a sign of incomplete love. It makes Marla request Jerry to have sex with her. She believes sex will make their relationship better. However, Jerry refuses to have sex with her citing that they have a contest. Marla sees the move by Jerry as betrayal and vows never to talk with him. In addition, Marla believes that lack of sex after a romance session troubles the partners.
