There Is No Hope Of Doing Perfect Research (Griffiths, 1998, P97). Do You Agree?
Discuss with detailed reference to at least two examples of research done
I agree with the above Griffith’s statement that states that; there is no hope of doing perfect research. With reference to the Oxford dictionaries, modern English defines research as ‘the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions’. In layman’s meaning research is a journey of acquiring additional knowledge to substantiate what we already know. In the other hand, perfect is defined as free from any flaws. Understanding the meaning of these words will help us in understanding this statement.
The purpose of research is formal- to seek information, knowledge to satisfy curiosity, to develop and test an idea, theory or concept. Research is the basis and platform for the advancement of all innovation and discoveries- medical, technology, academic, historical, scientific, industrial, social and so forth. Research is also used to support facts, authenticate existing theories and principles in addition to developing new ones. It is a continuous process of acquiring additional knowledge to dispel curiosity and substantiate what we already know and therefore goes hand in hand with the existence of human being.
It is abundantly clear that research can never be perfect, as the idea of ‘perfection’ will mean an end to human’s venture for any fresh knowledge.
It is obvious that one can never survive without self improvement which is a result of research, and this case is nearly impossible in today’s society. If people do not replenish new knowledge on a regular basis, there will not be any further development in this world and life would be complex.
Now let us go back to the history where scientists came up with many inventions. One example is Leonardo da Vinci whom was known as the greatest inventor and designer of infrastructures and machineries use for wars (Burande, 2011). His creation was considered advance and unique because nobody could do such inventions at that time. Due to research, most of his innovations have continuously improved over time to become better and efficient.
Another according to Burande (2011) is Clyde Tombaugh who on February 18, 1930, discovered the tiny, distant planet by use of a new astronomic technique of photographic plates combined with a blink microscope. This discovery was supported by other astronome...
