“Goodbye” is written by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Emerson is an essayist, an
American lecturer and he is the father of transcendentalism. Transcendentalism believes in self-reliance, individualism. In other words, Transcendentalism sees that any person doesn’t need to approach God through a person. Moreover, Transcendentalism concern about appreciating of the soul, the person and about the importance of Self-respect. In addition, Transcendentalism believes in the acceptance of other religions. All this is seen clearly in “Good bye”.
The poet in the first two stanzas shows that he hates this fake, unsafe world. The poet in the first stanza starts with that he says goodbye to this proud world, he says this world isn’t his friend and he isn’t the world’s friend. He hates this weary crowds, he feels unsecured, he feels tossed in this world .But goodbye world I am going home. In the second stanza, he continues to say goodbye to this fake world, he says goodbye to this averted eyes. In addition, he says goodbye to crowded halls, courts and streets. Goodbye to these people who have frozen hearts and hasting feet. Goodbye to all this fake people who come and go. Some critics say that these crowded halls and courts reveal that the incidents he passes by in the death of his wife.
