What is the relationship between a healthy lifestyle and disease prevention among the vulnerable groups in society?
Most cardiovascular and chronic disease is associated with the choice of living style an individual take. Various behavioral factors contribute immensely to the health of a person. The habits such as tobacco smoking, physical inactivity, poor diet, and high alcohol consumption negatively impact the health of an individual. Several studies have discovered that lifestyle diseases are contributed by three major modifiable risk factors: physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, and smoking. The lifestyle diseases were considered a disease for the developed countries, specifically “Western diseases”, but they have come to affect all groups from all corners of the world. According to the WHO, the disease is known as chronic, and it could lead to disability, economic and financial burden and loss of independence in the health system.
Currently, chronic disease is a significant public health concern globally. It is anticipated that by 2030 the mortality proportion caused by the chronic disease will rise seventy percent, resulting in a 56 % disease burden globally. Approximately 61% of all mortality and global disease burden of 49% was associated with chronic disease in 2015(Kılınç et al.). The diseases associated with a healthy living style are stroke, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity and some cancer types. The healthy lifestyle of avoiding smoking, watching body weight, regular exercise and observing a healthy diet have been discovered to reduce the risk of developing the diseases by up to 80%. Changing a lifestyle is could help improve the life of an individual and reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases, thus reducing the morbidity and mortality caused by the disease. The main controversy about this study is the ideal diet as there is no measurement of what an individual considers less or more food because different bodies require a different amount of energy from the food.
Moderate alcohol consumption is good for one’s relaxation of the mind. However, excessive alcohol consumption could lead to several health issues, among them chronic diseases. Some types of cancer, stroke and high blood pressure are highly associated with a high rate of alcohol consumption. Additionally, induvial under alcohol influence could experience other life threats like involving in accidents, taking their lives away and behaving in a violent manner (Kılınç et al.). In case of any significant abnormality in the body, an individual should seek healthcare intervention to determine the cause of the problem and assist in dragonizing the disease early enough.
Smoking promotes directly the development of arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis, which are the primary cause of cardiovascular disease. Moreover, smoking is highly associated with the development of some types of cancer and chronic diseases. Smoking affects almost all the organs in the body, including the heart. It can also lead to narrowing and blockage of the arteries, thus increasing high chances of developing heart disease. In the US, the implementation of the smoking law led to reduced smoking and was evident in the reduced number of heart disease cases. Once the arteries are affected, an individual may experience stroke due to a temporary blockage of blood from reaching the brain (Zuckerman). According to several studies, approximately 30-40 per cent of type two diabetes cases are diagnosed on smokers than nonsmokers. Therefore smoking contributes to the development of type 2 diabetes.
Sedentary life could mean that there is proper burning off excess calories. Accumulated cholesterol is deposited on the walls of the arteries, thus leading building up of substances on the walls of arteries. The excess fats also contribute to the narrowing down and, finally, blockage of the arteries. This incident could lead to the development of stroke, heart attack, obesity and even hypertension. Living a healthy life does not necessarily mean indulging In physical exercise. Still, it comes along with control of other factors like avoiding smoking, low alcohol consumption, and other risk factors for health diseases.
Poor choice of food in an individual’s diet could be life-threatening when it contributes to disease development. A healthy diet ensures that only the required and essential nutrients are consumed for solid growth, development and function of the body (Zuckerman). Healthy eatin
