Catcher in the Rye Review
The Catcher in the Rye is one of the 20th century American novel that brilliantly describe the inner world of a 17 years old boy called Holden Caulfield. He is a teenager whose live reflects what is actually happening around him. The novel has been translated to many languages from all part of the world.
The Catcher in the Rye novel begins by outlining the Holden’s expulsion from school due to failing so badly in all exams with an exception of English subject at Pencey School. This was not the first school for Holden to get expulsion, except that he had quarreled with nearly every student in school. Following this expulsion, he decided to go back to New York to his parents. He later changed his mind and booked a hotel, planning to stay there little bit longer because he feared to explain the ordeal to his parents.
Live for Holden in the hotel does goes well either. He tries to fit into the world and still finds it difficult to live in it and outside at the same time. The only relief he could find is in sex and alcohol. The new friends he makes, such as the lift operator, would offer to buy him prostitutes and alcohol which does not help the situation.
Holden tries so hard to fit into the new world by bringing the old friends, like Sally Hayes into his life. Still he cannot get along with them.
