The intriguing genre of metaphor-ghost incorporation can be perceived as one which obliges the readers to think that the world consists of characters living through with supernatural and natural ties; this becomes one of the most groundings to lay an explanation of the existence of self-doubt, alienation, and self-discovery that wholly revolves around governess. Therefore, this essay intends to examine the manifestation of the self-doubt, alienation, and self-discovery that manifested between the story of the governess and the two children Miles and Flora in the novel, “The Turn of the Screw.”
Moreover, the novel by Henry James used a metaphorical name “The Turn of the Screw” as used by Douglas who is the second narrator of the novel. Hence, this means that it is the desired impact of intensified drama as well as suspension. The novel not only calls for attention to the designed consequence but also to the effects behind its literary work. In other words, the object of the story was not to barely turn the screw but also to create an observable sequence of how it turned. The style was prevalent in most of the literary work of the time of its production where the viewpoint of such literature like the letters, diaries and many more tended using the method that affects the realism, which would give grounds to the incredible contemporary horror stories and movies.
