Establishing a general curfew, particularly for individuals under the age of seventeen, can be tough. Notably, some people believe that implementing curfews help in preventing crime among teenagers, especially those involved in violence and drugs. Nonetheless, setting up curfews for young individuals has various implications. For instance, curfew causes stress among teenagers and escalates rebellion, as explained in the following paragraphs.
Setting curfews is likely to create stressful situations among teenagers. With the increase in violence and crime in society, some people have often opted for curfews to deter teenagers from gang groups, particularly in the United States. Nonetheless, recent research shows that curfews increase stressful situations among individuals under the age of seventeen (Grossman, Jernigan, and Miller 590). Moreover, stringent curfews are likely to endanger teenagers and build fear as a result of the pressure of arriving home on time, therefore, leading to reckless driving. In this light, most young individuals feel curfews can deny them the opportunity of working at night to support their families, thus causing more stress.
