Instructions:

Preparing: First, students begin to think about their topics by watching the short film titled “The Adaptable Mind” by Tiffany Shalain. Then, students will discuss and consider what attributes of each sub-topic found in the film means and or contributes to societies. The topics mentioned as being needed in the next 100 years are: Curiosity, Creativity, Initiative, Multi-Disciplinary Thinking, and Empathy. Then, students are divided into groups by topic to do more research about the skill that is needed in the future. Additionally, students will create an annotated bibliography with a minimum of four good or academic sources to use as a base for their research and argument. Pre-Writing Questions: What topic did you select and why? What makes this topic interesting? How do others see this topic as being important to the future? Define the topic and some of the aspects of the topic that people might not be aware of if they have not done research. Why does is this skill necessary to our future? What professions seem to need this skill the most, and tell us why. How will this skill also enhance the individual’s personal life and personal growth? Why is this a skill that one should incorporate right now and for the rest of his or her life? Assignment: Students will create an argumentative argument about why their skill will be important in the next few centuries for individuals to focus on and develop to take into their personal lives and the workforce. So, students will need to clearly define the skill, discuss attributes of the skill, and give some specific examples of how that skill is used today and could be used in the future in specific careers. Students will create a minimum of a six-page essay on the selected topic. The seventh page can be the works cited page. Essays must include an introduction, three to five body paragraphs, a rebuttal, and a conclusion. Each essay must illustrate a working knowledge of MLA Style citations, in-the text citations and a works cited page with citation entries in alpha order. Points will be lost for omission of proper headings, titles, page numbers, and citation format. Annotated Bibliography Required: Each student will be responsible for creating their own annotated bibliography in preparation to write this essay. The Bibliography should be done before the essay and is a special 400 POINT lab that must be submitted. A sample will be provided. There is also a sample at OWL at Perdue that works as a template. Besides, the future might also incorporate a few transformations; nobody knows about tomorrow; however, change will occur in the manner in which activities are run. As such, the growing population worldwide raises concerns regarding future survival tactics with changes of individual and global perspectives of life. One fundamental idea that comes with the issue of survival involves the acquisition of particular life skills. Technology and scientific innovations have improved the way people view the world and operate within its premises. Technological advancements, for instance, have replaced the human labor and struggles of solving rising problems in communities today. However, the machines lack key skills that only human beings possess. Precisely, the incorporation of the adaptable mind in the 21st century formulates the center of discussion. In this case, the analysis values initiative skills (both at the workplace and personal basis) in predicting the impacts and necessities of the adaptable mind in the 21st century.
Importance of the skill
Taking initiatives equips individuals with the knowledge and skill to reach out to people. The adaptable skill will enable me to do things without being told to or reminded of the significance of every action done. Taking initiatives will help me survive in the changing world because the skill enhances persons to find out what they need to know and keep going when things are tough. The evolution of the world exposes human beings to the creativity and innovation of different types of activities and technologies. The world has moved from an industrialized to a technology-based environment in a short time. Similarly, in the next coming centuries, people will need to develop initiative skills to keep up their records and achieve their goals of improving the environment and the population around it. As a self-driven individual, I will incorporate the initiative taking to improve my ways of reaching people. Interacting with multiple individuals boosts networking and diversity of ideas; therefore, I will be in a position of handling or familiarizing with trending solutions of rising challenges within my environments.
Initiative minds enable individuals to act rather than react to environmental changes and stimuli. According to Shlain & Let it Ripple Studio (4 minutes thirty seconds), initiative minds are the pillars of emotional intelligence; individuals get to know others best through the skill. As such, I can apply the adaptable skill in the 21st century and the future eras to come. Taking initiatives will help me act to world problems instead of reacting to the outcomes of such conditions. The sobriety of the mind to handle situations as they arise increases the probability of quality decision-making and solving of problems. I will use the skill to understand the world and the transformation occurring to develop better approaches to minimizing future global problems. I will use the initiative skill at work to act on change drive and reduce reactions towards organizational cultures and values. Learning how to interact with people at the workplace improves the performance of employees; as such, I will apply initiative skills in creating a conducive workplace for me and others.
Initiative taking enables individuals to take advantage of opportunities that others pass by. Initiative minds help persons in forfeiting procrastination; using the skill can enhance personal growth. In my case, I will take initiatives to reduce workload and increase my effectiveness at the workplace. Besides, I will use initiative skills to utilize opportunities in things and projects that others see no value in. For example, the objective of science is improving life; everyone knows the value of science by few people takes initiatives in determining or implementing science for the personal growth of experimental purposes at workplaces. In my view, I think adapting initiative thinking can help me maximize time in realizing the significance of science. People seem fascinated with innovation; however, applying the skills in real-world settings is problematic to over forty percent of individuals (Van Laar et al. 583). I will use the knowledge of imitativeness in making use of opportunities through trial-and-error methods in applying science for commercial growth instead of experiments.

Taking initiatives describes the ability and skill of individuals to be resourceful and productive without reminders from external environments. An initiative mind is self-driven and self-aware of the factors surrounding human success and failures. Common sense drives the skill and exposes individuals in reaching out to people, helping struggling populations, making effective decisions without biases. Wihler et al. First, becoming an initiative person demands human beings to do and commit more than what is expected of them. Possessing initiative skills demonstrates a sense of self-drive. The skill can apply in the future centuries because it demands the willingness to develop personal interests in working on different projects without the help or influence of second parties. Secondly, initiative skills relate to personal motivation and insight; taking initiatives motivates people around individuals applying the concept to accomplish personal and occupational-related objectives. Working with little or no supervision inspires employers and colleagues in interacting with initiative minds. Thirdly, an initiative mind strengthens the personal brands of persons committing the skill in various environments. Not to forget, initiative skills distinguish the awareness level among people; as such, the attribute of self-awareness forms a primary pillar for the analysis and evaluation of initiative skills.
