A GIRL OF THE STREET
A girl of the street is a novel about Maggie. The novel was written by Stephen Crane. The novel starts with a small boy (Jimmie) who was throwing stones at the street urchins who were circulating about the heap and hurling at him. Jimmie had been abandoned by his comrades but fights the Blue Billie. The fight is interrupted by the Pete arrival, an older friend to Jimmie. Jimmie’s father came immediately and brutally rebukes at his son. According to my opinion the main theme of the novel is the family lives of the middle class people. Here the novel introduces when Maggie lives in the slums

The element of symbolism is used to dehumanize the lives of common people and to show the filthiness and the kind of low life they lived. Crane uses a lot of animal images, such as bugs and worms. In addition he uses the color symbolism to portray the insignificance plea of the common people. When he compared the convicts to worms, Crane emphasizes the filthy lives of the people. The comparison show how little the lives of common
The most portrayed theme is the human hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is seen after Mary abuses alcohol and abuses her family, she condemned her daughter as a devil spawn. She adopted her moral ground after the young girl was deserted by her lover. Communication and its failures is also portrayed between various characters. For example Maggie was unable to communicate with anybody about their love affair with Pete. Pete also fails to communicate his intensions to her. Lastly the theme of universality of human experience is also portrayed. Here the story waves through human experience, for example the neighborhood of Maggie were staying in a filth kind of life. The writer claims that people were staying in abject poverty for example during the...
