Consider these images. What feelings, moods or meanings do they seem to convey? What comment do they make about the meaning or substance of modern life?
T. S. Elliot’s poem, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock displays modernism as a style of imagism to construct the poem. The imagism that is linked to innovation is portrayed based on that poetry should be made up of vivid images. The poem represents imagery of a clash between the city and modern living in addition to the rejection of Victorianism and romanticism. This conveys the mood of confliction. Through the use of modernist images in the poem, Elliot discloses the conflict between the society and the individual and stresses on the individual (Elliot, pp.132). Elliot feels that modern life is full of disappointment and vulnerability. He also thinks that modern life has a narrow view of its quality and the essential things, the substance of contemporary life is preoccupied in appearance, age and poor communication.
