Prompt #2: The Role of Creative Directorship in Shaping Performance
Doctor Faustus and The Alchemist are masterpieces of creativity in directorship. In both plays, directors have made plots and actors’ performance outstanding. Both plays have the same plot; in Doctor Faustus, the scholar is lured into trading his soul due to greed for wealth and power, while in The Alchemist, a shepherd is obsessed with finding a treasure.
The writer of Doctor Faustus is Christopher Marlowe; he creates the plot as fascinating as possible by making the myth richer than the play. The verses in the play do not match the character development and action. However, Marlowe successfully paints Faustus as less intellectual because he agrees on a deal that harasses him, giving the Devil control over his life. Faustus’ limited reasoning capacity is also evident in the manner in which he gives tasks to the Devil’s agent. He does all this for the sake of wealth and power for 24 years. However, Faustus has limited power over his own life; how can he control other people?
