What is Public Policy Analysis?
Policy analysis refers to the keen study of the constituent elements of public policy, the policy processes or both aimed at finding out why some policies are in place and their effectiveness. In essence, policy analysis tends to question the suitability of the existing policies in addressing the related problems to come up with the best possible alternative for a particular problem. Policy analysis uses available evidence and information obtained through a well-coordinated research to come up with the best possible solutions to a particular challenge. The collected information is also important as it influences public discussions and decisions over the actions to be taken. Policy analysis triggers critical thinking about the causes of public problems, the possible ways by which the government, the private sector or both can solve those problems, and which policies are the most appropriate. Knowledge of government, politics, and ability to evaluate the policy is indispensable in this process.
