Toys and Gender
Introduction
Around the twentieth century, toys were rarely advertised to different genders. In the 1940s, manufacturers learned that if products were pushed differently for both genders, families would buy a new set of toys. As a result, the concept of pink for girls and blue for boys was born. Gendered toy marketing is popular in the United States of America today. You can tell who the target audience is if you walk down any toy section.
