It is with the development of portable electronic gadgets which use batteries in order to operate in the entire world that most people are now demanding for this new technology. This is an increasing demand also resulting from the adverse effects or rather demerits of direct electric charging. Wireless charging is also known as inductive charging. This technology has developed from electromagnetism. It is traced back to 1820 when it was discovered that a magnetic field is created when current is allowed to flow in a wire. This later developed in 1831 when Michael Faraday when he discovered that varying magnetic flux could also induce current on a wire. He supported this with a series of demonstrations as well. This was in a demonstration presented by Andre-Marie Ampere. It was from this that the unit Ampere was adapted to measure current. In 1836, Nicholas Callan came up with the transformers which he stepped up voltages from batteries using the other two discoveries. In this, he had already explored inductive charging. In 1893 however, Nikola Tesla came up with a presentation that has lived to be eminent among all examples of this technology in history. He did this at the World’s Fair hosted at Chicago then. He used ambient electric fields to light bulbs wirelessly. In 1895 however, it was discovered that to have radio communication through transfer of energy wirelessly. It is since then that the technology has advanced and it is attracting most of the world’s population.
Wireless charging involves the use of a magnetic field to transmit current between two substances. This is done within the specific charging station. It is through inductive coupling that power is propelled to an electric appliance. The device then utilizes the power in two possible ways. These are either using the energy to charge the cells or batteries or using it to operate the appliance. In its operation, wireless charging demands for two coils. These are the first and second induction coils also known as primary and secondary coils respectively. The first induction coil performs the task of creating an electromagnetic field. This is within the charging station. The second induction coil on the other hand works to ensure it withdraws energy from the created electromagnetic field and transfers it back to electric current. It is this current than then charges the cell or battery. The second magnetic coil is always located in the movable device. An electric transformer is also created when the two coils merge in close propinquity. This is the description of how the technology is used and most specifically in transformers. With the advancement of this technology, it is evident that it has been used in more occasions than in the transformers alone.
Wireless charging has also been used in the medical industry to carry out several surgical operations. The most outstanding one being in implants where it has been in use dating from back in the 1960s. In this procedure, it helps to decrease the risks of one contracting infections. This is proved when the device is inserted in the implants thus allowing for recharge via the skin unlike the other system where wires were made to enter the skin. There has also been the development of electrical toothbrushes which operate under the same principle. These toothbrushes have since the 1990s when they came up been charged using this wireless technology. In addition to those, there is the latest advancement of mats which are wirelessly charged among other appliances especially cell phones among other portable devices. If this technology continues to grow as it is, then there is a possibility that this technology will be standardized for phone accessories as well as the diverse computer brands among other appliances.
