Should the society look after the elderly?
Aging parents need care and protection just like children. Various research studies have indicated the significance of caring for the aging parents while others have presented a different point of views. According to a research study conducted by Med Health Care Philo, the theory behind caring for aging parents lies behind the reciprocity role between parent and children. As a young child, parents look after their children until maturity (Stuifbergen and Delden 67). Therefore, the opposite is expected to take place when parents age. In most societies and cultures, caring for aging parents is normally expected.
However, some complications in the family may result in diverse expectations from the community. For instance, some nuclear families may change their transformations through a divorce, resulting in step parents, half siblings, and stepsiblings. Therefore, the role of taking care of aging parents may take a twist due to change in family composition. On the contrary, it is highly regarded that people should take care of the elderly as they have less or no strength to carry out most daily chores (Stuifbergen and Delden 63).
Theories on elderly support have discussed the relationship between parents and their siblings to gain an understanding of the topic.
