Smoking in Poland
For a long time, tobacco smoking was a culture cherished in Poland, while many people were unaware of the harmful effects of smoking. The impact on the public was catastrophic since the mortality rate increased, and many smoking-related issues impaired people's quality of life. Until the dawn of democracy, society started realizing the need for smoking cessation. Legislative measures and guidelines by WHO further help stop the smoking culture in Poland.
Smoking became a major issue in Poland when it was a communist society. Being a communist society meant that both political and social factors facilitated smoking as a trend. Among the social factors that facilitated the smoking culture were poverty and lack of education (Jacek et al.). Cigarette consumption was exceptionally high among the uneducated and poor people (Krzysztof et al.).
