The sociology of gender reviews the understanding and perception of the society with regard to the differences between masculinity(the perception of the society on how a man should behave) and the femininity (the perception of how a woman should behave).It also tend to examine how this perception influences their identity and their social practice (Davies,1996).
Gender is a concept that has been used in shaping relationships between boys and girl in the society. There are various forces that have continued to shape gender and the relationships that come with it in the society. In our society one of the most common stereotype id that motorcycles are usually ride by men .Every time we see a person riding a motorcycle without even looking twice we assume that they are male .This is typically engaging in a gender stereotype .This kind of stereotype tends to indicate that women are weak to ride motorbikes.
Gender role usually shapes individual behavior by dictating how individuals of each gender must behave and also leading to enforcement of penalties for the individuals who don’t adhere to the norms. I disagree with these stereotypes since they do not provide a clear explanation to why men should not engage on activities that are considered for women and vice versa.
People who are identified as Cisgender and straight usually face bad consequences if they fall out of their gender role that they assigned at birth.
