Bodybuilding is an activity and sport that has changed over the years. Today, bodybuilding is more widely accepted. People exercise regularly and set fitness goals. In ancient societies, however, people used bodybuilding for different reasons. Greek and Roman civilizations are perhaps the most renowned in human history. Greeks and Romans had a lot of things in common. With knowledge of Greek culture, Romans became more civilized than the Greeks. However, the Greeks pioneered many things in academia and politics. As a result, ancient Greeks appear closer in resemblance to modern society. Romans focused on conquering and expanding their empire. Thus, most of their resources were in the army.
Greeks and Romans had multiple gods. Thus, most of the things they did were inspired and dedicated to their gods. For instance, the Greeks traced the Olympics back to Zeus. Also, Romans believed that gladiatorial games were a way of honoring the gods. In this paper, the author explores bodybuilding in ancient Greece and Rome. The aim is to discuss bodybuilding from both ancient civilizations as evidenced in historical texts.
