In the era between the end of reconstruction in 1877 and civil rights movements in the 1950s, any law requiring racial segregation was termed as Jim Crow law. Jim Crow laws initially needed the separation of black American people and white people from all means of public transportation and schools. Later the exclusion grew to include interaction in schools, parks, cemeteries, theatres, and restaurants. Jim Crow laws began when the Supreme Court states that states could not interdict separation on common transportation modes, such as trains. Supreme Court changed a specific section of the civil rights Act of 1875, including separate but equal concept.
After the civil war, African Americans enjoyed a period where they could enjoy education. Churches, schools, and missionaries worked tirelessly to educate Black American people, and the former slaves took advantage of the opportunity. Grandfathers’ ad grandchildren went to classes and obtained tools of freedom. After the amendment of the constitution and the Civil rights Act of 1899, African Americans enjoyed the privilege of voting, actively participated in political processes, acquired land, sought their employment, and made use of public accommodations. Later, the introduction of Jim Crow laws led to the decline of the freedom they had acquired in the reconstructions.
Slavery came to an end in 1865, but as years progressed, black Americans in Sothern states experienced increased unfairness compared to those in the North. Jim Crow denied black Americans rights and freedom to move in that there were required to separate from places where the white was, for example, restaurants. Jim Crow laws in the south legalized seclusion and helped to keep black American at inferior positions either I politically or economically. Since the black Americans had no legal form of power, they could not participate in juries.
